Glen Ridge GatesPortion of entrance gates Glen Ridge, NJ 2007

These gates were designed by von Hoffmann Landscape Architecture, of Montclair, NJ. All scrolls, leaves, etc. hand forged by me. The latticework in the columns was a particular challenge. The original design only showed crosshatching.

The entire gate measures approximately 14 feet wide by 10 feet high. Each gate weighs about 200 lbs.
Drawing by Eric von Hoffmann for Glen Ridge Gates

I included an image of Eric's drawing to show the progression from a working drawing to finished piece. The column crosshatching, for instance, defines the intent of the design pretty well, but doesn't show how it should be resolved in fabrication. I have included a picture of the latticework that I created to use in the columns.

This shows the latticework I created to fill in the crosshatched pattern on the columns. The lattice is hand riveted at every intersection, and used on all 4 sides of the columns.

This is a stack of twisted and formed pieces for the latticework before assembly.
