Hi Charlie,

I love the work and am particularly interested in functioning tools such as the scissors on this post but not to discount the beautiful ornamental work on your site. I would be interested in seeing more like this.

Keep up the good work

Hi there Steve. My name is Mike and I have a scissor question. I live in Canada - if that matters?? So my girlfriend is very, VERY obsessed with scissors. She has a collection of about 40-50 pairs, is constantly looking for new ones and collecting pictures of scissors off the net. She is now becoming interested in producing her own. I would like to make that dream a reality for her - big time brownie points ya know!? So I was wondering if you could give me some tips on how to do this. I don't want to make the scissors myself - just give her the means and information she will need to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again, Mike.

Hey Steve, nice to hear from you! This pair of shears does not function, as I intentionally made the joint very tight as to avoid water seeping into the joint on the finished artwork. Your comment about learning from an intern states pretty much what I am feeling about the experience, as well. As an example, there are a number of different approaches to making a pair of tongs; different paths to the same end. Watching Steve (Rooney, the OTHER Steve, not you) trying to find his way through making a pair of tongs starts me thinking about exactly how I would go about doing the same job. I offer advice as it occurs to me or when asked, but do not try to impress MY way as being the best way, as I think exploration and discovery, failure and success are the best learning tools. Especially failure, thank God. I'm an expert.

Very cool Charlie! Do they function? and are they in the final design now? Congrats on getting an intern. I can say from my own experience that some of my favorite methods and techniques in my field I picked up from working along side people just starting out but with totally different educational backgrounds. Plus some fresh energy is always good.
